The Space Station – Episode 2

When will traits be released to the public

First concept of Planets was 2100 generative planets, generated by code. But then Creator decided to manually create them one by one. So it resulted in 2100 hand-crafted planets. At first Creator didn’t want to do traits. Since all planets are 1/1. And Creator felt that with adding traits people would buy purely based on rarity of traits in stead of what they visually like. But since there are certain elements like different moon types, different shields, different rings, different dimensions, it does make sense to add those as traits. And for the second layer within the project, the gamification, the planets should also be categorized in types, so people can recognize what resources (which are needed in the game) are on/in that planet. Figuring this all out is a lot of work but Creator thinks this week the first traits will be added to Planets.gallery.

Are resources really a thing and if so how will they be used

Yes, resources are really a thing and they are required for the game. All planets have resources, but not all planets have the same resources. Planets also don’t have the same amount of resources. Part of the game is also stealing resources from other planets. Where shields etc come in for protecting resources.

Is habitable really a thing and if so how will it be used

Habitability is going to be a thing in the game. But Creator cannot explain how yet. The game has elements from the game Risk and Command & Conquer.

When next update for planets and what will the update consist of

There are a few collabs with external artists ongoing to add more events and elements to the galaxy (for example the gas cloud event that is appearing now every 1000 blocks). The artwork of the first artist is done and will be added in approx. 2 weeks. The first one is the hardest because every artists works with different types of code and techniques which has to be adapted to the Planets environment. The first one takes a bit more time due to learning curve. After that is implemented, future additions should be done faster. The devs will create a ruleset for future artists for easier implementing.

Will there be travel between different dimensions

You can already when you click on your planet in full view and go to Galaxy mode. There are arrows that can make you move through dimension. For the game: Yes also possible. There will be ways to collaborate with planets in other dimensions. Creator is thinking about stargate/portals in the game to travel to other dimensions.

Will we be able to view more than one planet on the same screen, similar to multiplayer mode for gaming systems

Yes, this can be developed. Like a split screen mode to watch the same event happening from different planets in split screen mode, giving you different camera angles. Creator adds this to the todo-list.

What will OG points be used for and will it give people certain perks

OG points is a way for Creator to measure involvement and dedication for the Planets project. It will be a very complex algorithm that looks at a lot of different things. Using data (facts) to reward holders. Just a small example. There are moments that the overall Ordinals market is more quiet. During these moments people tend to list more. Creator goes on by explaining it almost looks like panic or a traumatic behavior because people have been in too many projects that only had a short term momentum. This behavior leads to a snowball effect of people listing and undercutting, therefor destroying the floor price of the project. For example: every Sunday is quiet. There is no reason for panic, its just a less active day. With OG , Creator is building a tool to reward peoples behavior, for example in periods as described above. Data looks at: do you list. If you list do you list low , do you list high. How do you collect? Do you hold? Do you buy or sell (on less active days). What is the ratio listed/unlisted of your holdings. Do you buy floor planets.

OG Points may also be given to other projects that Planets. But nothing about that is decided yet.
Another things Creator noticed is that a lot of big collectors are quiet holders that are not active on social media. Having good data on holder mentality within Planets, it will also make Planets interesting for other projects (Whitelists, collab etc).

How do we reward OGs? The team is also building Ordinal.io curated marketplace and other tools in the ordinal space. A part of the future profits will be distributed to holders based on OG point holdings.
Creator says he doesn’t know what protocol will be used for OG. Small alpha. The block planets will also be earned by gaining OG points.

When trading (OTC), do you have any idea how to shape that

Creator thinks OTC is tricky. Because there is always a chance of drama, which might look bad on the project. Since there is no middleman. Creator suggests trying contact the holder and use a middle man (like ME offer system) to do deals amongst holders.

The future communication system between planets might be a way to inform holders of a planet that you have made an offer.

SUYE last Sunday

Sunday august 31st was another art meetup at Suye Gallery in Amsterdam where Planets also is represented. Creator gives a lot of credit to the people of Suye for onboarding people, especially people from outside of the Ordinal space. A lot of real art collectors. We will organize a meetup around Bitcoin Amsterdam in November at the Suye Gallery in Amsterdam.

Suye gets on stage and talk about the meetup at Suye Gallery. People from Romania, France, Belgium, Germany, UK and obviously The Netherlands where there. The all got a nice introduction to Planets, the 3D gallery and project Copernicus (where Planets are also inside of).

Creator says it’s a great way of growing the Ordinal space. Suye says the biggest hurdle is getting people to install a bitcoin wallet, but once they are over that hurdle they like to collect projects they love. September 28 there is another meetup at Suye Sundays. Creator says he will be there.

Why are you against tipping and royalties, since you turned off the TIP option in Magic Eden

Creator says tips will go to his bitcoin address, and since Planets is a community project he doesn’t feel that is right. He is not a fan of royalties. It’s a decentralized project and shouldn’t be connected to him. The project can only be successful when a group of people work together, not just a founder.

Do you feel pressure as a founder when you see some unrest on socials when you decide to step away from the project for a couple of days for a family holiday

The way Creator runs the project is with a strict routine. Starts early and has full backing of his family. He tries to answer everybody’s DM’s in depth and due to everybody being in different time zones it can be challenging. And there are some limits. He has to eat and sleep sometimes.

There will be moments in the project where certain people be unhappy because of expectations they got for the project. Expectations can be high (and unrealistic) but Creator understands why they are there. Because a lot of projects lose value and attention within the Ordinals space.

Creator sees a lot of projects failing because projects that get this pressure keep acting on this pressure. And that is not sustainable. If you keep trying to solve the pressure and the pressure keeps coming back, most projects give up and founders disappear.

Planets is a big part of Creators life. He wants to keep doing it because he has this creativity in his head. And he has a long term vision on where the project should go.

There will be moments when certain people might get unhappy when Creator cannot meet the expectations that they got, which is something he has to accept.

He listens to all the feedback he gets, he doesn’t see feedback as negative but as valuable. And when he can do something about it he will.

Shout out to Ordinal Gallery with founder on stage

Ordinal.Gallery is a free app for Android and iOS that shows you the ordinals you own (without connecting your wallet). It has a favorites option and has notifications on activity in your wallet (incoming ordinals, outgoing ordinals).

The Founder joins us on stage and drops some alpha. They are working on a Discover mode that shows you other projects that you don’t own yet. The algoritm looks at other wallets that have the same projects as you and shows you projects that the other wallets do have and you don’t.

Creator adds that Ordinal Gallery is also a great way to display Planets on your mobile phone, better than Xverse. So download the free app on https://ordinal.gallery.

Closing words

Creator closes the Space by saying he thinks the projects is in a good place (space). He is happy how things are going. Floorprice, volume, getting in new collectors in the past weeks. This gives him energy and focus to work on the things he is building. Last weekend was the first weekend he went on a trip. He feels the project gets stronger every day and he is looking for the launch of the next update with the art of a new artist and keeps pushing on adding traits and resources. He finishes with saying on holding more Spaces more often, weekly or bi-weekly, depending on how much news is there to be talked about.
