The Space Station – Episode 5

Update on communication protocol

About 80% of total development time goes into this protocol. It is a completely decentralized protocol for communication. Not only usable for planets, but also outside it. A decentralized and secure way to communicate. There is nothing like it yet. Some challenges have been overcome. For example how we solved “spam” accounts. Since its fully decentralized there is no party that verify if you are an actual user or a bot. All platforms deal with that with captcha, verify by phone, make an account etc. But when it is fully decentralized it isn’t an option. The first version is planned to be launched this year. Planet users will be able to beta test early.

It will also be a unique way for the Ordinals space to communicate with fellow holders of a certain project. Without any the noise and fake shilling that is happening on platforms like X. Since its fully decentralized it also doesn’t get influenced by stuff like “Amazon servers are down”. Chuck adds that it is worrisome how many services go down when something like Amazon’s AWS goes down.

New stuff added to the Galaxy

The artwork added next is done and they are now working on the best way to add the artwork into the Galaxy. They expect it in the next update, in approximately 2 weeks. This update will also contain the highly requested update for hiding the top right menu of a Planets view. Especially for the people who want their Planets displayed on a nice screen.

Spaceship

The devs yesterday had the first test of the Spaceship that will be added to the Galaxy. Currently you can already navigate through the galaxy by hopping on one of the comets and travel in a set pattern through the dimension your in. But the Spaceship is something else. You control the spaceship and travel through the dimension. You can control the spaceship, can go everywhere, change the camera view from the spaceship and more.

Chuck adds that Elon should become a sponsor and brand the Spaceship to a SpaceX ship.

First steps is to make the Spaceship functional, after that Creator will take care of the final look of the Spaceship.

Traits / Resources

The adding of resources is still a bit on hold, since Creator has some issues categorizing all 2100 planets, which is a step that has to be finished before the resources can be added.

New collection

Creator finished the artwork for the new collection. It is a fun collection and something people will not expect from Creator. The collection has a lot of fun elements with references to movies, music, conspiracies, the Ordinals space, Planets and more.

Planets will soon be able to have inhabitants. And these inhabitants show up as sort of a PFP when clicking on a Planet. Its optional, just like naming your Planet is. Selected projects (also from other founders) will be able to act as inhabitant of your Planets. The upcoming collection will be the first project to act as inhabitant on Planets.

Chuck asks him some questions to get some alpha.

What is the supply? “10k”

When mint? “I think within 2 weeks, because it basically is done. It has a lot of traits, which will be distributed evenly”

What prize? “Not 100% determined. Around 12 usd + inscribe fee. And then for Planets holders its half”

Creator adds that he doesn’t really want to do a WL (except for obviously Planets holders since they get 50% off). It is the worst time to launch a project because the Ordinals space is slow. That’s why Creator think it’s the perfect time to launch the project. He fully expects a slow mint. Just like the recent Neko Neko mint.

Own platform

Just like previous projects we are going to use our own platform Ordinal.io, which has been worked on for about 2 years. Final developments for the mint of the new project are being done. For example a wallet connect. On the Planets mint the team didn’t want to have wallet connect since it is a new platform and people should learn not to blindly connect there wallet on every URL they get thrown at them. After the launch of the project the platform will also be opened up to external projects.

The plan for the Ordinal.io marketplace and launchpad (among other services already programmed for Ordinals/Runes) is to launch it after the mint of the new collection is done. Improve some small things and do some marketing and activate the holders of our own projects to use it.

Beating ME is very hard to do, even impossible. ME totally focusses on buyers. They don’t focus on the 1000 of projects/founders/artists that “disappear” because they are not in the top 10/25/100. How can you focus less on the top 100 volume and more on genuine activity, innovation, loyalty to Ordinals. If you want to do that you need the help of founders and holders.

Loyalty badge on Discord

Question from the community is a Loyalty badge and role on the Discord server. Team decides to think about how this could be arranged. There is already the OG points system that has an algorithm to determine “loyalty”. How we can implement it to Discord is on the to-do-list.

General Ordinal discussion

Adding to existing collection

Pizza Ninja is going to add to the collection. Creator asks how Chuck and Itcha look at adding to the collection supply.

Chuck think there are several reasons people are against it. For example Ordinals are on Bitcoin. One of the main features of Bitcoin is the fixed supply. Therefor people might get triggered when Ordinals collections supply change. Second reason why people might be upset easier is sentiment of the market. The space seems slow and prices are under pressure. People might be less open to change when sentiment is bad already.

Creator think it all depends on how it is communicated with holders.

Itcha thinks it would also work as a separate collection OR when there is a clear difference between the first and second batch in a collection. Just as OMB does for example.

LunaLauncher

Creator mentioning LunaLauncher as something very refreshing to the space, he sees that there is real quality on it and people really like it. People are entertained and people can mint new stuff on a daily basis and are not worried about secondary market. Chuck: ”yeah you don’t see anybody asking WhEN SeConDarY I WaNNa BuY MoRe”. Its affordable and fun.

It is more art focused with editions/prints and therefor different from has been done up to now. It comes closer to real life art buying. Real life art collectors don’t buy art from an artist with the intention of selling it within 24 hours for a 5 dollar profit or ask the artist “where is the utility, cant you do something”.

Chuck focusses on the fact that they also add the option to order a high quality physical print of the art you are minting. Bringing digital and physical collecting closer together.

Creator adds that what is happening looks like real life art buying, which is very refreshing and lots can be learned from it. A totally different approach and he hopes it continues like this. They are updating the platform very fast, and early bugs like dupes but the team was really on top of that. We had some mints on Trio, which is considered a rather large platform with funding. There were a few mints with bugs, no big damaging bugs but annoying and people complained. Creator thinks this complaining has a lot to do with how people perceive a company or platform. The expect a certain level of quality because it’s a funded platform. Lunalauncher has just started, they seem to go with the flow. Launch stuff early and fix when something goes wrong. People don’t mind and even help the project and feel part of the new platform, which is great. Chuck also ads that the team when a bug occurs is on hands to manually fix it for users who for some reason missed a mint due to a bug.

Itcha says: it is a strategy that is used more often: Ship something and fix it as it breaks. People feel taking part of making and refining it and enjoy that. Early day stuff. And that the current time is the perfect time to build something like this.

Creator also adds that bugs happen even with extensive testing. We had a free mint for the Dog PFP and tested it over and over and everything worked. Then on mintday we added the total whitelist for the project and everytime somebody entered their address on the mintpage it had to go through the total whitelist of 500.000+ addresses, for every single user entering. Totally freezing the system. People from the outside don’t know so they simply say “amateurs!”. But stuff like this happens with new tech like Ordinals still is.

Important dates

October 26

Suye Sundays in Amsterdam, with The London Police, Planets and more. Behind the scene Creator and Suye are working on a way to bridge Planets with other projects (outside Ordinals). It will give people a reason to explore the Galaxy. People attending Sunday might get to know more about these initatives.

November 12

Bitcoin Amsterdam Ordinals Meetup in the gallery, featuring Planets at the Suye gallery. It’s the night before Bitcoin Amsterdam, so we invite all Ordinals enjoyors who travel to Amsterdam for a drink and ordinals gossip. Itcha from Bitcoin Worms is traveling in for sure from the UK.

November 14-16

DesignerCon Las Vegas. The Suye booth will also feature Planets. Creator and Suye are working on a way to give Planets maximum exposure there.

In the final minute of the space Suye finally entered X and apologized for being late, he had art buyers in the gallery that asked how to purchase a Planet also so he couldn’t go online. Apologies accepted (best reason ever).

Creator and Chuck thank everybody in the room for listening and hope to see people in real life during the upcoming dates.
